      Survey of the Boswell Family Section by Janice B. Poteat in March 2008. The Boswell Cemetery is a fenced area located along side of Walters Mill Road and is located within the Providence Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in the Providence community.

      • John Henry Davis was a Civil War soldier, sawmiller, cabinet maker, and merchant. He owned and operated a country store at Purley, built a house there that is occupied today (2008) by his descendants, and created beautiful walnut furniture . He sawed the lumber for Purley Methodist Church and for Providence Missionary Baptist Church. That he was a Civil War Veteran, having served in the 38th Virginia Infantry, is borne out by his gravestone at the Providence Baptist Church. According to his ancestors, he volunteered for military service (Confederate States of America) at age 13 and was wounded when age 14 at Gettysburg (part of Pickett's Charge behind General Armistead). After the Civil War ended he moved to Caswell County to operate Walters' Mill in Providence.
