      Location - at 1833 James Street in Durham City. NE corner of James St and Nation Ave.

      This cemetery once had about one acre which held more than 60 graves. In 2017 it has been shrunken down to less than one-tenth acre. It is abandoned and overgrown. The earliest burial is 1865 and the last known burial was December 1882. Many of the tombstones and markers have been moved. There are seven legible markers for the first wife of William Gaston Vickers and six of their children.

      Proctor and Vickers family graveyard was at the corner of James and Fir Streets. (Fir Street was renamed to Sourwood Street and then renamed to Nation Avenue). Deed from Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Christian to F. A. Ward, Book 42 Page 48, setting aside one acre for family graveyard to be surveyed. This tract adjoins the land of Marion Vickers and G. C. Farthing.

Vickers, born July 29, 1838, died Dec. 1, 1882, 44 Y's, 4 M's, 2 days, A good Wife, loving mother and kind neighbor. This world is not my home. My home is in heaven. Blessed are the dead that ---- in the Lord.
