283    SNOWHILL PLANTATION CEMETERY

There is a convenient walkway next to 6212 to access the cemetery though it seems wise to ask the homeowners first.

There are maybe 15-20 slightly sunken gravesites most marked with plain fieldstones at the cemetery. It is located on the former Snowhill plantation which was in continuous use from the 1760s till recently. The developer of the housing development recently built on the site has marked each grave with a small orange flag. See Durham County plat books 153/371 and 163/329 for more details. The Southern Historical Collection at UNC-CH has abundant material on Snowhill and contains a series of maps, none of which note the cemetery - they do show that a Rufus Ladd lived near the site in the 1930s.
