049    CONYERS - WINSTON FAMILY (Long Mill Rd)

Location - off Long Mill Rd about 0.8 mile north of Hwy 96, on the property of Long Mill Elementary School.

      Coordinates: 36d 03m 28.7s N; 78d 29m 48.7s W Click here for Online Maps

Directions: Take US Hwy 1 north to the intersection of Highway 96 and take a left onto Hwy 96. Go to the first road to the right, Long Mill Road. Go approximately 0.8 mile to Long Mill Elementary School on the right. The cemetery is just north of the car parking, area and west of the bus parking area and the schol building, inside a chain link fence.

Since the school was built, a chain link fence surrounds the whole cemetery area. Inside the new fence, there is an older wrought iron fence which has mostly Conyers graves.

There are more than 60 graves in this cemetery. Many graves just have fieldstones as markers. Many are sunken areas with no markers. Many of the unmarked graves are believed to be former slaves.

Survey, information and photographs submitted by Pam Spragins in 2007. Additional information submitted by Christie Moore who alerted us to this cemetery in November 2013.
