189    STOVALL FAMILY

Location - on Wilsontown Rd off of Hwy 15 near Stovall NC.

Directions: From Oxford, take Hwy 15N to Stovall; turn right on Wilsontown Rd; drive approximately 1/2 to 3/4 mi. to a house on the left. The back of the house faces the road. The cemetery is located at the front of the house in the left corner of the front yard as you face the house.

Canvassed by Jessie McLam, June 2003.

The town of Stovall was named for John Walker Stovall, who gave right of way for the railroad.

Family history states that there was a scuppernong vine in the edge of the front yard of the Stovall house, where Lucy would come to pray. When she died, she was buried here, establishing this spot as the family burial ground.

Information was obtained from tombstones and from Fann Montague, a direct descendent of John Walker Stovall.
