Wife of Audrey Brown Cameron. Portrait picture. Laura Shaw Atkinson Cameron ("Mrs. A.B."), 95, died peacefully on at Inspired Living of Tampa. She was born in Marietta, NC, to Sellers and Annie Atkinson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Audrey Brown ("A.B.") Cameron, her parents, three brothers, Horace, Ralph, and Richard Atkinson; and three sisters, Mary Adelaide and Annie Lou Atkinson, and Katherine Atkinson Spivey. Laura Shaw met A.B. after he returned from serving in the Navy during World War II; they were married on June 21, 1947, and lived in Sanford, NC. A.B. passed away in 2000 at the age of 78. Laura Shaw is survived by her three children: Will (Mary Ellen) Cameron, Blair (Carol) Cameron, and Page Cameron (Dave) Hawes, five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, 13 grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Laura Shaw graduated in 1945 from Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, NC, and became a high school teacher of math and French. She taught the majority of her career at Benhaven School in Olivia, NC. Mrs. A.B., as she was affectionally known, taught for a total of 34 years and retired in 1985. She was loved dearly in and out of the classroom and touched many lives. Mr. Jerry Long, a former principal of Benhaven, said at the last Benhaven reunion, "The real Miss Benhaven is Mrs. A.B.; she personifies the spirit of the school. Mrs. A.B. loves this school, its students, and this community. She is always positive, always thinking of others, and will take on any challenge and complete it. She was a joy for the principal to have on his staff." Laura Shaw loved and served at Barbecue Presbyterian Church for 72 years. She gladly volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, Choir Director, Vacation Bible School Director, and also served the Lord as historian, elder, and with the Women of the Church. One of the joys in her retirement was visiting sick and elderly members with the pastor and sending cards of care and encouragement. Those who were blessed to know Laura Shaw remember her as a sweet, gentle soul whose underlying mission seemed to be loving people for the Lord. She leaves a legacy of cherished heart prints with those who remain. Arrangements were handled by Smith Funeral home in Broadway and a public graveside service was held at Barbecue Presbyterian Church in Sanford, NC.

Wife of 1) Donald Thomas and 2) Theodore Cocolin. Theresa Campbell Thomas Cocolin, age 85, of Sanford, NC, died at Westfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Moore County, NC to the late Thomas Watts Campbell, Sr. and Flora Theresa Dula Campbell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands Donald Thomas and Ted Cocolin; siblings Marguerite Campbell Nagy, Thomas Watts "TW" Campbell, Jr. and Gwyn Campbell Dixon. Theresa was a loyal and dedicated member of Barbecue Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities including; Deacon, Elder and a Sunday School Teacher for 23 years. She will be missed by her loving church family. She was also a poet and novelist. She penned many poems and was recognized for her writing by Mt. Olive University Press. Theresa also wrote a column for the Harnett County News. She is survived by her children; Donna Thomas Shaw of Sanford, Mike Thomas and wife Lori of Sanford, Jimmy Thomas and wife Tammy of Oak Island, Lisa Thomas of Sanford; sister Billie Campbell Hickox of Florida; sister-in-law Ruby Campbell of Sanford; 7 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Bridges Cameron Funeral Home of Sanford, NC. Graveside services were held at Barbecue Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Harnett County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sister Lorene Odom, Brother Walter (Buck) Hinkle and his wife Lou McCormick Hinkle. He was a 31 year Veteran of the United States Army having retired as a Command Sergeant Major and was an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper. After his retirement from the Army, he was the ROTC Instructor at Western Harnett High School retiring in 1986 and was retired with 20 years of service from the Benhaven Rescue Squad where he served as Chief and was a founding member of the EMS. He was a member of the Barbecue Presbyterian Church and a member of Buffalo Masonic Lodge # 172 A.F. and A.M in Sanford, NC. Surviving is his daughter, Donna H. McCoy and husband Michael of Sanford, NC; Sons, Paul G. Hinkle Jr. of Sanford, NC and John M. Hinkle and wife Lisa of Sanford, NC; Sister, Irene Moore of Houston, MO and Brother Lee Hinkle of Independence, MO. Grandchildren; Kendell M. Cook, Kaitlyn D. Hinkle, Ryan A. Hinkle, Zachary D. Hinkle and Cody A. Hinkle. Arrangements were handled by Smith Funeral Home in Broadway. Funeral services were conducted at Barbecue Presbyterian Church in Sanford, NC and burial was conducted in the church cemetery with full military rites.

Husband of Mae Howard Osborne. James (Jim) Alexander Osborne, age 85, of Buffalo Lakes Sanford, NC, passed away at Cape Fear Valley Health in Fayetteville. He was the son of the late Benjamin Adam and Lee Measamer Osborne. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Howard Osborne for more than 50 years; brothers, A.J. Dixon, Robert Osborne and Harry Osborne; sisters. Frances Patterson, Nancy Jefferies, Mae Palmer and Alma Lilly. Mr. Osborne served in the Korean War as a member of the Ranger Air Borne Unit, a Life-time member of the American Legion and VFW; a 32nd degree Mason over 50 years; a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Sudan Shrine and Jester. He served as a Director of Public Relations Sudan temple, Past President of Rocky Mount Shrine Club and Harnett County Shrine Club and member of Jonesboro Heights Chapter 310 Eastern Star. He worked as a Detective with the Harnett County Sheriff Department and retired in 1995. He was the owner of Osborne Detective Agency from 1995 to 2009 when he retired. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine on August 27, 1983 by Governor Jim Hunt. He was a faithful member of Barbecue Presbyterian Church and was honored Elder Emeritus in 2010. Survivors include two sons, Ron Osborne and wife, Janine of Burlington and Donny Osborne of Mamers and one daughter, Joy Osborne Lloyd and husband, Greg of Sanford; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Bridges Cameron Funeral Home in Sanford, NC. Services were conducted at Barbecue Presbyterian Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Roy Jr. and wife Jennifer of Fayetteville and Michael Shawn Roy of Broadway; 5 grandchildren, Michael Shawn Roy II., Katherine Jolie Roy, Samantha Danielle Roy, Megan Riley Roy and Joshua Matthew Roy; brother, Roger Roy and sister, Maxine Varney both of Elkins, WV.; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home of Lillington NC. A graveside service was held at Barbecue Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Harnett County.

Husband of Mary Adcock Thomas. Odell Brown Thomas, 93, of Kendale Drive, Sanford, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018. He was born in Harnett County and was the son of the late Clarence Tillman Thomas, Sr. and Essie Clyde Brown Thomas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Adcock Thomas; his brothers, A. Ray Thomas, Clarence "Tommy" Thomas, Jr., Oker Lee Thomas and Harold Thomas, all of Lillington. Odell attended Lillington High School and he was a Veteran in the US Navy during World War II on a Liberty ship. After the war he began his life as a tobacco farmer and later became a real estate investor in Lee, Chatham and Harnett Counties. Odell and Mary were married for over 69 years until her death in 2015. He loved horses, working, making a deal and his family. He is survived by his siblings: Frances Betancourt of Raleigh; Noralene Newtown of Lillington; Shirley Bain of Lillington; Ann Price of Roxboro and Danny Thomas of Lillington; his children: Larry Thomas and wife, Nancy of Sanford; Sharon Woodham and husband, Pete of Charlotte; Debra McMahon and husband Joe of Centreville, VA; Beverly Tucker and husband, James of Sanford; and Tammy Contafio and husband Andy of Waxhaw. He is survived by his grandchildren: Jeremy Thomas of Sanford; Leah Finger and husband, Pete of Raleigh; Simon Woodham of Manhattan, NY; Calli Woodham of Brooklyn, NY; Chris McMahon and wife, Samantha of Reston, VA; Matt McMahon of Centreville, VA; Kacey McMahon of Philadelphia, PA; Alex Tucker of Sanford; Amy Tucker of Raleigh; Chelsea Contafio of Charlotte and Nick Contafio of Charlotte. Also surviving are great-grandchildren: Luke Thomas, Abby Thomas, Reeves Finger and Connor McMahon. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington, NC. The funeral was held at the funeral home chapel and burial followed at Barbecue Presbyterian Church, Sanford, NC.
