      Directions: From the intersection of US Hwy 21 Bypass and US Hwy 21 business at Old Wall-Mart location, take right onto Poplar Springs Rd (SR# 1001) and follow go .6 mile to Burcham Rd (SR #1133). Turn Right on Burcham Rd and follow for .4 mile or until the pavement ends at corner of Periwinkle Lane. There is a cow pasture that must have the gate open to enter and once thru the gate proceed for approximately .6 mile past an old shed to another gate that must be opened. Once thru that gate it must be closed again so that cattle don't escape. Continue on down a hill for about another.2 mile. There will be a large white rock on LH side of the trail. Stop here and go up a grade to the north for about 50 yards.

      Status of cemetery:  Forest area.
      Surry County Parcel Number:  4952-00-08-6083.

      There are about 55 or so fieldstone markers here and the cemetery is rumored to have been a slave graveyard. There is no proof but there is supposed to be one living individual that may know the history of this cemetery. Other rumor or story named this as the Southard graveyard. Some of the first landowners of this property were brothers Issac and Henry Southard who had land grants for large amounts of property. Occupants: Unknown possibly slave graveyard, or Southards .
