Survey from the notes of Durward T. Stokes in 1959.
Contains one stone.... It is now owned by Alamance County and left as a vacant lot because of the grave marked. Doubtless others were buried there but no stones remain to indicate the graves.
James Alexander Turrentine (1835-1919), whose mother was Elizabeth Bobo Holt (the widow Ray prior to her marriage to John Steele Turrentine), made a marginal note on page 127 of his copy of "The History of Alamance" by Sallie Stockard: "Sallie (Holt) married Mr. Whitby. They lived on the main between Graham and Burlington near the County Home across the wood opposite the spring where the first Holt's settled. Old grave yard south of the branch in the pines where some of the old Holts are buried." According to this comment, the site may well be that of the first Holt home in what is now Alamance County.
