A North Carolina historical marker located at the intersection of Bethesda Church Road and Bethesda Cemetery Road provides additional directions to the site.

The early church was founded in 1765 by German Calvinists, including Henry "Kopp" Cobb. Noah Cobb I purchased 500 acres of land in 1779 from Governor Richard Caswel, which surrounded the wide proximity of Bethesda Church. There, he and his father, Henry Cobb, built and ran a factory where they constructed conestoga wagons for setters headed west to "the good land" in Kentucky and Tennessee. Up until the late 20th Century, the site was marked on official North Carolina Highway Maps as "Cobb's Shop."

He had a brother, Azaniah, who also had a son named Zenith. By 1870, he was 65 years of age, a farmer, married to Mary-47, with Catherine-27, Cornelius-24, and Martha-age not clear, living in his home. They lived in the Locust Hill area of Caswell, Co.

There was a Rev. John H. Pickard shown in the 1850 census for Caswell Co., 67 years of age, with a wife, Ann M., age 60. He was born in Orange Co. NC. From the Raleigh Register of Dec. 3, (between 1819 and 1825), an article was written: "Pickard's School---The subscriber has opened a School in Caswell county near Brown's Store, for the instruction of youth in the rudiments of the English, Latin, and Greek languages. Geography--with the use of the Globes. Natural and moral Philosophy and "c" will be taught. This school is 10 miles west of Caswell courthouse and 7 miles east from Rockingham Springs. John H.
