History: The Mount Pisgah Baptist Church was organized August 26, 1814 by a presbytery consisting of James Weathers and Elder Robert Thomas Daniel at Yates Meeting House. There were 25 charter members--4 males and 21 females. Daniel was chosen as their first pastor. In 1818 the church changed its name to Mount Pisgah. Records for the church are held at the ZSR Library at Wake Forest University. Records include: Minutes of church conferences from June 10, 1815 - December 5, 1869, details of the organization of the church; articles of faith and charter members, 1814; male, female, and African-American male and female membership rolls, 1821, 1858, 1865-67, and undated; church statistics, 1814-1868; references to the baptism of Matthew Tyson Yates and his licensing to preach, 1840.
