In 1972, W. Harold Broughton, page 28, reported 9 grave markers and noted that, in 1929, James Childs Rives Reliques of the Rives, page 239, said that Edwards Rives "is buried with his wife in the old Rives graveyard at his home about seven miles from Goldston, North Carolina, now included in what is known as the "Bynum Place." The stone marking his grave "has crumbled away to such an extent that all the information thereon is destroyed." In 1972, W. Harold Broughton stated that Edwards Rives home was at Pedlars Hill at the northeast comer of the intersection of SR 2129, Campbell Road, and SR 2181, Mark Willett Road; that the graves were not found; and that they may have been buried in the cemetery of his father, Thomas Henry Rives, at "The Barraks," now known as the Ike Bynum Place on SR 2176, Dewitt Smith Road.
On 11 January 1993, Will M. Heiser visited the cemetery with Robert M. Dixon and noted the 9 graves recorded by Broughton in 1972, and also the following monument which reads:
