      Roberts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Goldston was organized in 1876 in a brush arbor by a small band of ex-slaves and their children. After these early pioneers met in the brush arbor, the members secured materials from another old church and built a wooden structure on land given to them by Nancy Roberts. The church was named Roberts Chapel in honor of Mrs. Roberts' husband, Willis Roberts. In 1924 a new church was built near the location of the original church.

      Roberts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church was one of forty-three churches that made up the New Hope Association. On October 27, 1916 Roberts Chapel along with ten other churches withdrew from the New Hope Association and organized a new association to be known as the Deep River Missionary Baptist Association. Roberts Chapel has continued to be an active member and leader in the Deep River Missionary Baptist Association and the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.

      The following pastors have served this church: Rev. Bennett, Rev. Matthew Brown, Rev. C. S. Crumpler, Rev. Dr. George Moore, Rev. A. T. Tuck, Rev. McCallum, Rev. Newkirk, Rev. C. C. Taylor, Dr. Rev. J. T. Hairston, Rev. T. Van Rhoe, Rev. A. T. Alston, Rev. J. H. Bryant, Rev. Dr. Sampson Buie, Jr., Rev. Miles Siler, and Rev. Dr. Joshua T. Jones, Jr.

      In 1989, Inease Wicker reported 64 legible markers, several illegible markers and several field stones. In 2018, Delphine Womack, James Womack, Roy Wicker, Jr., Billy Joe Goldston, Thomas William Hooker, Helena Hooker, Jim Wiggins and Bev Wiggins inventoried and photographed the cemetery. They recorded 352 graves and noted several additional unmarked graves. Several of the markers noted by Inease Wicker in 1989 were not located in 2018.
