013    ARRINGTON, JOHN FAMILY

Location - corner of Quarter Rd and Hwy 43 in the old Hilliardston Community.

Directions: From Hwy 64 in Nashville, NC- take North First Street northeast for 1 mile, Continue onto First Street Extension for 1 mile, turning left at the stop sign onto Red Oak Rd, Once you reach the community of Red Oak, (4.1 miles) Turn left at the stoplight onto NC-43 N/Red Oak Blvd, Continue to follow NC-43 N for 3.8 miles, Turn left onto Quarter Rd. (dirt road at this time). Once you have turned onto Quarter Rd., drive about 200 yards and park. Cemetery is to the left in the edge of woods beside the field. There is a path in the woods leading to the cemetery about 100 feet. Cemetery has a stone wall around it, but at the time of this survey, there are medium size saplings growing in the cemetery.

1. Arrington, Archibald Hunter   (b. 13 Nov 1809 - d. 20 Jul 1872)
Born in Nash County. Son of John Arrington and Elizabeth Nicholson. Attended the local academy in Hilliardston, the Louisburg College. Was a US Congressman from 1841-1845. Member of NC's Secession Convention in 1861, and a member of the Confederate Congress. Delegate to the Union National Convention at Philadelphia in 1866, Chairman to the Court Of Pleas in Nash County 1866-1867. Nash County Commissioner in 1868. Married 1st in 1839 to his cousin Mary Jones Arrington. Had two children with Mary. ( John Peter and Mary). Married 2nd in 1855 to Kate Wimberley. Had at least 7 children with Kate. Archibald also owned a number of plantations in Alabama, where his brother Samuel lived.

Son of Archibald Hunter and Catherine Wimberley Arrington.
3. Arrington, Catherine E. Wimberley   (b. 1 Mar 1834 - d. 3 May 1871)
2nd wife of Archibald Hunter Arrington. They had six children.
4. Arrington, George Wimberley   (b. 18 Aug 1864 - d. 29 Jun 1885)
Son of Archibald Hunter and Catherine Wimberley Arrington.
5. Arrington, Henry W.   (b. 21 Feb 1868 - d. 27 Jul 1868)
Infant son of Archibald Hunter and Catherine Wimberley Arrington.

7. Arrington, John   (b. 16 Jan 1764 - d. 27 Apr 1844)
Born in Edgecombe County, NC. Son of Arthur Arrington and Mary Sandefur. Was a resident of Hilliardston in Nash County. Married 1805 first to Elizabeth Ann Nicholson (widow of Allen Mann). 2nd in 1823 to Sarah Gardner. John was a Nash County Senator 1798-1799, 1801-1804, 1806-1807.

Daughter of John Peter Arrington and Laura Maud Philips. Granddaughter of Archibald Hunter and Catherine Wimberley Arrington.

1st wife of Archibald Hunter Arrington. Daughter of Peter and Barbara Height Arrington. They had two children: Mary (1848-1883) and John Peter (1851-1895).

Son of Allen Mann and Elizabeth Ann Nicholson (wife of John Arrington). John Arrington became the guardian for Elizabeth's children with her first husband. (James and Thomas). James was a member of the General Assembly in Nash County. Trustee at the Nashville Male Academy in Nash Co.

18. Williams, Elizabeth Ann Nicholson Arrington   (b. 10 Mar 1808 - d. 17 Jan 1851)

19. Williams, Samuel T.   (b. 8 Jul 1837 - d. 8 Sep 1876)
Was an editor in Granville County NC before the war. Appointed Captain of Commissary in 12th NC Regiment. Son of Henry G. Williams and Elizabeth Ann Nicholson Arrington.
20. Williams, Solomon   (b. 18 Jul 1835 - d. 9 Jun 1863)
1858 graduate of US Military Academy as 11th in his class. Colonel of the 12th NC Regt and later 2nd NC Cavalry. Was killed in action at the Battle of Brandy Station in Culpepper County VA. Son of Henry G. Williams and Elizabeth Ann Nicholson Arrington.
21. Williams, William T.   (b. 25 Jun 1840 - d. 7 Mar 1864)
Was a resident of Nash County, North Carolina; being a physician by trade. He was originally appointed a Captain in company H of the 12th North Carolina Infantry on May 1, 1861, and then Lieutenant Colonel in the 1st North Carolina Battalion (later the 32nd North Carolina Infantry), on November 29, 1861, tendering his resignation on June 18, 1863, giving the unusual reason that he had wanted to serve the Confederacy as a private. At a later stage he was nominated for an appointment in the Confederate States Navy as Assistant Surgeon. Son of Henry G. Williams and Elizabeth Ann Nicholson Arrington.
