140    OLDE MOUNT VERNON CHURCH

      Location - 11610 Durant Rd, Raleigh, NC. From Raleigh, drive north on Falls of the Neuse Road, about 1 mile north of the interchange with I-540, turn left (west) on Durant Road. The church is about .5 mile on the right. Cemetery is to the right of the church.

      This is a small white frame church that was way out in the country when it was founded, but is now being surrounded by subdivisions. The church is still active however, it is not the original congregation. The original Mount Vernon Church is now located on Falls of the Neuse Road, in a new building, but they have retained control of the cemetery. The cemetery is well cared for and burials are ongoing.

      In addition to the markers listed, there are 22 graves marked with rocks, 3 unmarked graves, 20 with small markers that say "Unknown" and 6 that are so eroded they are illegible.
