Wife of Fred Weaver. Gladys Fields Weaver, 99, of Sanford passed away peacefully at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Gladys was a life-long resident of Sanford. She retired from Heins Telephone company in 1984 after 35 years of service. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. Gladys is survived by her grandson John Finley Lloyd of Lexington, NC, his wife Dorielle Stanfield Lloyd and their son Frankie Lloyd. She is also survived by her granddaughter Karen Grayson Lloyd of Knoxville, TN, her husband Andrew Decker Steen, and their daughters Clara Grayson Steen and Mary Jon Decker Steen. In addition to her many dear, loving friends in Sanford, Gladys is survived by her faithful friend Larry Rappl of New Hill, NC. Gladys is preceded in death by her son Franklin Lamont Lloyd, daughter Mary Jon Lloyd Herman, brother John (Jack) Fields, husband Fred Weaver, and parents Mary and John Fields. Arrangements were handled by Rogers Pickard Funeral Home in Sanford, NC. Her memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church in Sanford. A committal service was held at Buffalo Cemetery.

Husband of Joanne Massey Wilson. Claiborne Waddell Wilson, 102 of Sanford passed away Wednesday July 8, 2020. Mr. Wilson was born in Harnett Co to the late Willie Edgar Wilson and Mattie Lee Ferguson Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Massey Wilson and his daughter Katherine Holmes; sisters, Elsie Daniel, Dorothy Whitehead, Ola Hare, Maude Kelly and Essie Wilson; brothers, Charles Nick Wilson, Phil Wilson, Howard Wilson, Hannibal Wilson, Leroy L. Wilson and Reggie Wilson. Before his death, he was the oldest living graduate of Boone Trail High School in Mamers, NC. He graduated on May 29, 1936 and volunteered into the Army Air Corp the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He attended gunnery School and was assigned to a B-17 "Flying Fortress" stationed in England. In January of 1943 he flew the first American mission over Germany. On his thirteenth mission, while flying over France, his aircraft was shot down. He escaped capture with the help of the French underground for six months then smuggled into Spain. He received a Purple Heart, two Bronze Oakleaf Clusters, and French Legion of Honor. Mr. Wilson is survived by a special friend Rachel Butner; Grandchildren; Stephanie Welsh-Ray and Joshua Glovier of Angier, several great Grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Arrangements were handled by Rogers Pickard Funeral Home of Sanford, NC. Graveside services were held at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford, NC.

Wife of William Clyde Womble. Betty Jo Wofford Womble, age 85, died at Central Carolina Hospital. She was born in Sanford, NC to Elizabeth Harrington Wofford and Tom Wofford. She is survived by daughter Rhonda Womble of Floyd, VA; granddaughter, Whitney Chigas and great-granddaughter Lilly Chigas of Emerald Isle, NC. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William Clyde Womble; brother Eugene Wofford and sisters Thelma Wicker and Anne Daurity. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished all the friendships she made and her favorite things to do was visiting the sick, homebound, praying for others, cooking and enjoying her family and friends. Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder and Deacon. She enjoyed being a member of the Dietrick Sunday School Class. She served as a Stephen Minister since 1991 and a Stephen Leader since 2006. She always received a blessing to serve and share God's love to others. Betty received Honorary Life Membership from the women of First Presbyterian Church of Sanford. She was presented the Governor's Award for work with underprivileged children by Governor Martin in 1987. Betty served on the THANKS program (Thoughtful, Helpful, Adults, and Kids Sharing). She taught children that "God loves you, and so do I". She served as a Girl Scout Leader for six years and still had special bonds with the girls she taught. Betty was also a courtesy member of the Sanford Woman's Club. Arrangements were handled by Bridges Cameron Funeral Home of Sanford. Services were held at First Presbyterian Church in Sanford, with burial at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford, NC.

Husband of Betty Wofford Womble. William Clyde Womble, age 90, of Sanford, NC, died at Central Carolina Hospital. Clyde was born in Siler City to Mema Thomas Womble and Whitney Gordon Womble. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Clarence Womble, Jimmy Womble and sisters Christine Herndon, Mary Alice Wilkie, Maggie Cole and Viola Westmoreland. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Wofford Womble; daughter Rhonda Womble of Floyd, VA; Granddaughter, Whitney Chigas and great-granddaughter Lilly Chigas of Emerald Isle, NC. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and Deacon. He enjoyed being a member of the Dietrick Sunday School Class. Clyde served in the Merchant Marines, from 1944-1946-World War II, also served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. He joined the Sanford Lions Club on September 28, 1950 and was awarded Life Membership on April 5, 2010 from the Sanford Lions Club and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from Lions Club International Foundation. He enjoyed helping others through his Lions Club service. Clyde was owner of Womble Chevrolet Company for 38 years, where he greatly appreciated all the employees, their families and customers. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and cherished all the friendships he had made. Arrangements were handled by Bridges Cameron Funeral Home of Sanford, NC. Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church in Sanford, NC and burial was at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford.
